  • OFF GRID HOUSE GAINS PLANNING CONSENT
    NEWS
    Planning approval has recently been granted for Maesygwiel Isaf, one of our projects in Mid Wales. The project will bring back into use and extend a redundant farmhouse. The building will be entirely off grid and highly insulated to ensure minimal energy consumption. Sustainable, low impact materials will be utilised throughout.

    The practice presented a case study for the recent RIBA webinar 'Designing for Sustainability'. A thought provoking and inspiring morning had by all as we continue to strive for better ways to build.

    Pen Y Common has been given an RIBA National Award. RIBA president Simon Allford said the 2023 National Award winners offered a “rich source of inspiration” at a time when building collaboratively and working towards a sustainable future are paramount concerns for architects.

    Recently completed
    A recently completed new house set within the curtilage of a Grade II Listed Farmhouse and medieval cart shed. This sensitive build is clad using local clay tiles to sit comfortably with the surrounding buildings. To read more about the project please visit our work page.

    Pen y Common has been awarded the Eisteddfod Gold Medal for Architecture 2023. The aim of the award is to raise the profile of architecture in Wales with buildings being selected for their value to Welsh culture.⁠

    We are pleased to announce that Pen y Common has won the RSAW Building of the Year Award for 2023. The judges felt the extension was neither too formal nor too informal. Its arrangement honouring the local farmhouse tradition of ad hoc development.
